Glossostigma (Glossostigma elatinoides)

Glossostigma, also known as Glossostigma elatinoides, is a popular aquatic plant in the hobby. It is a species of the family Phrymaceae and is native to Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania. The plant has small, bright green leaves that grow in a carpet-like fashion, and is typically sold in small pots that can be separated and planted in an aquarium.

The leaves of Glossostigma are small and tongue-shaped, typically measuring about 0.2 inches (5 mm) in length. The plant can grow up to several inches tall and will form a dense carpet of leaves over time. The leaves are relatively delicate and may require pruning to prevent overcrowding in the aquarium.

Glossostigma plants require high lighting and prefer a nutrient-rich substrate. They also prefer a water temperature range of 68-82ᄀF (20-28ᄀC) and slightly acidic to neutral water conditions. Carbon dioxide injection is also recommended to promote healthy growth.

The plants can be planted directly into substrate in an aquarium. It is recommended to plant them in a dense pattern to achieve the carpet-like appearance. Glossostigma is a fast-growing plant and will quickly spread and fill in any gaps in the carpet.

Glossostigma plants are a beautiful addition to any aquarium, providing a lush, carpet-like appearance. They are relatively challenging to care for and require high lighting and nutrient-rich conditions. However, with the appropriate care, they can create a stunning aquascape.
